Representation of the People Bill published

The APPG welcomes the introduction of the Representation of the People Bill – and calls on the Government to go further. Our members and officers welcome the positive proposals set out in the legislation. These include:

The Representation of the People Bill contains lots to be happy about.Measures to boost participation & stop foreign interference are very welcome.But there's more still to do to give the public confidence that the rules are enforced independently & political power cannot be bought. 🧵

Ultimately, the test of the Representation of the People Bill is simple: will it mean that ordinary people are fairly represented in politics? To pass this test, we need a fully independent elections watchdog, we need an upper limit on the influence of super donors, and we need a fair voting system that fairly reflects what people voted for.
